From walking on stilts to using real ink wells, the children continue to share their memories. In Social Studies, we will start learning about Canadian communities of the past, specifically the early settlers, or pioneers. To enhance our studies, we will be visiting a one room schoolhouse at Burnaby Village Museum on Wednesday, April 8th. The program is designed to give students a first-hand experience in an environment typical of the times in Vancouver in the 1920's. Authentic games and texts will be used. Children learned about a Day in Space, Surfed the Solar System in the planetarium theatre, and played in the cosmic courtyard. Thank you to the parents who helped supervise!
On Pink Shirt Day, following a story about bullying, children shared how they could be kinder to each other and how they could help "mend a wrinkled heart." I continue to be moved at how thoughtful and caring your children are. On One Hundred's Day, we celebrated being in school for 100 days! I've added two new math games to our blog that children have been enjoying on the smartboard this week. In Gamebone, children use their knowledge of a hundred chart to find the 10 hidden bones in less than a minute. In Place the Penguin, children practise place value. It is offered at two different levels, 1-100 and 101-1000. Monday Our dress rehearsal is at 1:30. Students will have time to change into their concert clothing at 1:00. Reminder that our class is wearing black and white. Tuesday There will be parking available on the gravel field. Please car pool and walk if possible. Please bring your child to our classroom at 6:00. Coats and belongings can be hung in their usual spot. At the end of the evening (approx. 7:30,) you can pick your child up from the classroom. I will be with your child during the whole evening before and after they perform. If you have a 6:15 ticket, you can proceed to the gym at that time. Please access the gym hallway entrance from one of the two outside doors. The inside door will be for cast members only. After the show, you are welcome to join other parents in room 105 for some coffee and chatting while you wait for the second show to end. If you have a 7:00 ticket, you are welcome join other parents in room 105 while you wait for your show. Once the gym is emptied, you will be able to access the gym hallway entrance from one of the two outside doors (approx. 6:45.) The inside hallway and door are for cast members only. After the show, please pick up your child from the classroom. (approx. 7:30) Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Friday We will be riding the Stanley Park Christmas Train with our Buddy Class. Thank you to the many volunteers and parent drivers.
